Waterfront Trail Repair Notice

Posted on Tuesday July 18, 2017

The Town of Ajax will be temporarily closing sections of the Ajax Waterfront Recreational Trail during the summer of 2017. Due to recent shoreline erosion, sections of the trail have been damaged and require re-alignment. It is anticipated that construction will begin in August and will last approximately 4 weeks.

The Town understands the closure will cause disruption for users of the Waterfront Trail. However, the work is necessary in order to maintain a safe, accessible and continuous waterfront trail.

The work will include:
  • Removal of existing trails where damage has occurred in 3 main areas
  • Restoration of the land where the trails are being removed (naturalized planting)
  • Construction of new sections of trail north of the existing trails
  • New sections will be three metres wide asphalt paved trails
  • All existing site furniture will be moved with the new trail and aligned close to their previous locations
  • All trees will remain in their current locations

During the closure temporary fencing will be installed around the work zones. There will be no public access to the fenced trails during the construction period. There will be alternate routes utilizing existing sidewalks, trail connections, and roads.

We sincerely appreciate the public's understanding and patience in this regard. and we will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
