Volunteer Recognition Awards

Each year the Town of Ajax recognizes and honours the achievements and contributions of community volunteers. These prestigious awards express the Town’s appreciation of the many individuals, groups and businesses who are helping to create a community where people feel a sense of belonging and responsibility to each other, and are active participants in its development. We invite you to submit nominations for those individuals, groups and businesses, who you believe have made a significant contribution to our Town.

Award Categories

 Ajax Civic Awards

Awarded to an Adult (26 years & older) and Youth (25 years & younger), this award recognizes individuals who have made an outstanding voluntary contribution to the well being of our community over a number of years.  Contributions must be voluntary, but can be related to an individual’s expertise from training, work experience or education.  This award recognizes local champions who build communities and show us all just what can be achieved with passion and determination.  Current and former Ajax residents are eligible.

 Ajax Senior of the Year Award

Awarded to a Senior, 65 years or older, who has helped to make Ajax a better place to live.  Achievements in many fields would qualify (i.e. arts/literature, community service, education, environment/science, fitness, sport/recreation, humanitarian activities and keeping history alive).  Please note: the recipient of this award will be nominated for the Ontario Senior of the Year for Ajax Award.

Community Awards:

Accessibility Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to the elimination of barriers to people with disabilities, and/or the inclusion of people with disabilities in all facets of the community.

Arts & Culture Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to the development, support, preservation or promotion of culture, music, visual, performing or literary arts.

Community Event Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to the life and spirit of the community through neighbourhood based program(s) and/or event(s).

Community Safety Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to enhance the development, promotion and/or support of initiatives to improve community safety.

Diversity & Community Engagement Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to the recognition, support and/or development of community and/or diversity initiatives, which engage new residents, reach out to enthno-cultural/special population groups and enhance tolerance, acceptance and respect.

Education Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has enhanced learning opportunities for Ajax resident(s) through educational support, programs, events or training.

Environment Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to the protection, preservation, beautification, awareness and/or promotion of our local environment.

Good Deed Awards - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has provided acts of humanitarianism and/or caring actions to individuals, families and/or groups. A maximum of four awards available.

Health & Social Service Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to the quality of life for individuals and/or families through care and support.

Heritage Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to heritage preservation, architectural conservation, research and/or interpretation of local heritage.

Recreation Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to the promotion, development and/or support of recreation and/or sport in the community.

Senior Support Award - awarded to an individual (youth and/or adult), group or business in Ajax who, over the past year, has contributed to the well being of seniors in our community.
