Special Achievements and Contributions

There are several life events and contributions that are worthy of recognition.  At the Town of Ajax you can acknowledge these achievements and bring awareness to specific causes, using the following initiatives:

Congratulatory Certificates - Honor the achievements of an individual, group or organization with a certificate signed by the Mayor, and issued on behalf of Ajax Council

Proclamation - A public announcement or declaration in a formal manner (i.e. certificate)

Flag Raising - Flags are hoisted up a pole erected near the Town of Ajax flag pole

Requests should be submitted a minimum of four weeks in advance of the date the certificate is required.

 * Applicants may request presentation of the certificate at a community event, public meeting or sent by mail.

Congratulatory Certificates:

 Achievements and contributions recognized by the Town of Ajax.

  • Outstanding acts of civic service

  • Arts, cultural and community engagement

  • Team achievements (athletic/academic) i.e. winners or finalists in provincial, national, international competitions, etc.

    • For recognition of team achievements, individual participants will be issued certificates and a plaque will be issued to the team, organization or school
    • Recognition will be granted for the highest achievement title in a given field (i.e. if a team is participating in a provincial championship, wins and moves on to compete in the national championship, recognition shall be received for the national championship only)
  • Personal milestones i.e. celebration of 100th birthday, 50th wedding anniversary

  • Business achievements i.e. Grand Opening

Recognition requests; for the following will not be supported by the Town of Ajax.

Any request received that either directly or indirectly supports:

  • Demeaning, derogatory, prejudicial, offensive matters
  • Political or religious messages
  • Any matter in contravention of Town of Ajax policies, procedures and by-laws

Proclamations:

Proclamations will be issued for recognition of the following:

  • Recognition of National and Independence Days

  • Art, community and cultural events and celebrations

  • Charitable fundraising/public awareness campaigns

  • Civic events

Proclamations will not be issued for the following:

  • Political parties/organizations, election campaigns
  • Public demonstrations or rallies
  • Promotion of private/profit-making business
  • Religious organizations, celebrations, events or holidays
  • Any event contrary to the Town's policies, procedures and by-laws

Flag Raising:

Requests for flag raising will be approved for the following:

  • Recognition of National and Independence Days (flags recognized by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade website)

  • Art, community and cultural events and celebrations

  • Charitable fundraising/public awareness campaigns

  • Civic events

Requests for flag raisings will not be authorized for the following:

  • Political parties/organizations, election campaigns

  • Public demonstrations or rallies

  • Promotion of private/profit-making business

  • Religious organizations, celebrations, events or holidays

  • Any event contrary to the Town's policies, procedures and by-laws

 * Flags will be raised for a maximum of 7 days, which may be reduced to ensure other requests are accomodated within the same time period.

** Flags must have a top toggle attachment- no pole flags- and dimensions must be 3ft by 6ft

How do I make a request for a Congratulatory   Certificate/Proclamation and Flag Raising?

What happens once I submit my request?

Legislative and Information Services staff will contact the applicant within a week of receipt of the certificate request to notify them whether the request has been approved or denied.

IMPORTANT: A limit of one special achievement certificate request for any individual, group, team or organization will be issued within the calendar year
