Flag Raising

To acknowledge an event, cause, or campaign a flag can be hoisted up the flag pole erected near the Town of Ajax flag pole. All requests must be submitted a minimum of four weeks in advance of the date intended for the flag raising.

Flags will be raised for a maximum of seven days, which may be reduced to ensure other requests are accommodated within the same time period.

 There are 4 ways to submit a request to Legislative and Information Services

* Please print and complete the Request for Council Recognition form  prior to submitting your request by mail, fax or in person. Forms are also available at Town Hall-65 Harwood Ave South. 

Requests for flag raising will be approved for the following:

  • Recognition of National and Independence Days (flags recognized by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade website)

  • Art, community and cultural events and celebrations

  • Charitable fundraising/public awareness campaigns

  • Civic events

Requests for flag raisings will not be authorized for the following:

  • Political parties/organizations, election campaigns

  • Public demonstrations or rallies

  • Promotion of private/profit-making business

  • Religious organizations, celebrations, events or holidays

  • Any event contrary to the Town's policies, procedures and by-laws

Flag Details:

Each applicant must provide the Town of Ajax with a flag. The flag should be delivered to Legislative and Information services a minimum of seven days prior to the intended date of the flag raising.

Flags should be approximately 3ft by 6 ft. (1:2 ratio) to accomodate the height of the Town's flag pole (17'-20' in height) , have a wooden toggle attachment on the top side of the flag and a small piece of rope on the bottom.

What happens once I submit my request?

Legislative and Information Services staff will contact the applicant within a week of receipt of the certificate request to notify them whether the request has been approved or denied.

IMPORTANT: A limit of one flag raising request will be granted for any organization within the calendar year.
