Heritage Advisory Committee

The Heritage Advisory Committee will promote and preserve the unique local history, including the natural, cultural and architectural heritage and will serve to assist the community in understanding its beginnings, development and future. In addition, the committee will serve as the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee in accordance with the Ontario Heritage Act, 1990.

The Town of Ajax has a unique history and architectural heritage. The promotion and preservation of the local history, including the natural, cultural and architectural heritage serves the community in understanding its beginnings, development and future.

Heritage Advisory Committee Mandate

  • To promote the cultural, natural and architectural heritage and history of the Town of Ajax;
  • To preserve historical information, artifacts, historical sites and architecture through the Ajax Archives;
  • To assist with the designation process for properties of cultural heritage value or interest;
  • To assist with preparing and maintaining a register of properties of cultural heritage value or interest;
  • To examine and comment on Town policies that have a broad public interest;
  • To comment on selected planning applications that may have an impact on heritage properties;
  • To assist with public outreach and education regarding cultural heritage issues through the implementation of programs, activities and materials; and
  • To examine and comment on current cultural heritage legislation.

The Advisory Committee will also review recommendations to Council on policies, programs and regulations as appropriate. The Advisory Committee may provide input and support to broader corporate initiatives that advance the interests of the Town as identified in the Corporate Strategic Plan.
