Celebrate Local Government Week 2012!
What is Local Government Week?
Local Government Week is an education focused campaign that celebrates the key roles Ontario Municipal Governments play in defining the character, programs, services and physical make-up of our province's diverse communities. This year, Local Government Week will be celebrated October 14-20, 2012.
Each October, the Town of Ajax participates in several community engagement activities recognizing the value of local government:
- Council proclamation
- Presentations to local high school Grade 10 Civics classes
- Host visits to Town Hall/Council Chambers from Grade 5 students
- Town-wide Trivia Challenge

2nd Annual Local Government Trivia Challenge!

Our winners knew that...
- There are 8 local tier municipalities in Ajax.
- Steve Parish is the Current Town of Ajax Mayor.
- The type of tax charged by your local government, rather than by the provincial or federal government is property tax.
- Waste collection is a service provided by the upper tier Regional municipality and not by the Town of Ajax.
- Durham Regional Police Services provides local police services for the Town of Ajax.
- There are 7 representatives on Ajax Council.
- The term of Council for municipal politicians in Ontario is 4 years.
