Our Diverse Community - Town of Ajax

Culture of Inclusion

Our Diverse Community

The population of Ajax is growing and changing. To ensure the Town is able to respond to the needs of all residents Council approved the Diversity and Community Engagement Plan in 2010.

The Plan includes the Town's Diversity Polity Statement which states:

"The diversity of Ajax is one of its greatest strengths. The Town of Ajax embraces and values diversity, promoting an engaged, healthy and inclusive community. The Town is strongly committed to equity and diversity through its policies, procedures, service delivery, amenities and employment practices."

A series of recommendations will be implemented in the coming years with a focus on providing residents with equitable access to:

  • Employment Opportunities;
  • Programs and Services;
  • Community and civic engagement; and
  • Tools to help strengthen neighbourhoods.

We will achieve success when we have developed a staff team more reflective of and sensitive to the needs of the community we serve; deliver programs and services which respond to the changing needs and interests of our residents, have effective communication tools to help residents connect with each other and the broader community; help to build a culture that celebrates the history and heritage of all who live here and contribute to the community.

The Plan is championed by a staff implementation team with regular input from the Council appointed Diversity and Community Engagement Advisory Committee. Progress reports will be published annually at a minimum and can be found below:
