Ajax Council releases checklist for provincial election
Residents encouraged to ask questions of candidates in advance of June 7 election

Today, Ajax Council released a checklist of priorities for the provincial election.

Council is calling on candidates to publicly address and support the following three priorities:

  • Keeping Casino Ajax
  • Requiring tertiary treatment at the Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant
  • Protecting the headwaters of Carruthers Creek

Each of the priorities require approval by the provincial government to deliver. As such, Ajax Council is committed to ensuring that voters are informed about these policy matters and their importance.

“These provincial priorities will have direct, long-term impacts for Ajax and its residents” said Mayor Steve Parish. “We need a representative that will take action on all three priorities on day one. This is not a partisan exercise, it’s about getting what’s best for Ajax. Council has been very vocal on the importance of these matters.”

The checklist is a follow-up to communications the Mayor has had with all parties, including leaders and candidates, outlining these priority issues and highlighting their broader themes that will impact the province.

Residents are encouraged to ask candidates about their positions on these matters at the door and during debates prior to the June 7 election.

Quick Facts:

- The provincial election takes place on June 7 with new riding boundaries. The next MPP in our riding will represent Ajax exclusively.

- The Town of Ajax has been continuously advocating for the priority issues outlined in the checklist.

- All candidates have been made aware of these issues, and have been offered equal opportunity for further briefings. In addition, their Party Leaders have also received correspondence on these matters.
