Ajax recognized as Durham Region’s Smart Commute Employer of the Year

The Town of Ajax was presented with the Smart Commute Award for Employer of the Year for Durham Region at the recent Smart Commute Award Ceremony in Toronto.

The Smart Commute Awards recognize employer members and partners who have put forth exceptional effort in implementing their Smart Commute programs.

The Employer of the Year Award is presented to organizations who demonstrate outstanding commitment, leadership, innovation and results in promoting active and sustainable travel options to staff.


“All new Town employees receive a special Active Transportation package during orientation which includes Smart Commute initiatives, bike facilities and trail maps. Staff are also encouraged to participate in annual Smart Commute events such as Bike to Work Day and Carpool Week.”

- The Town of Ajax has been an active member of the Smart Commute program since 2008.

- Smart Commute is a program of Metrolinx and the municipalities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. The program helps anyone who is going from A to B explore and try out smart travel options such as walking, cycling, transit and carpooling. The goal of the program is to ease gridlock while helping people save time and money.
