Six ways to participate from your home and neighbourhood

The Town has shifted Ajax Green Living Days (GLD) programming this year to focus on activities residents can participate in at home and in their neighbourhoods. The six activities focus on sustainability and climate change, and feature expert-led webinars highlighting immediate actions that can be taken now to help create a healthier and greener Ajax.

2021 Ajax GLD activities:

  • Spring Clean-Up Challenge (April - June): Spring Clean-Up Challenge (April - June). The Town’s Spring Clean-Up Toolkits are back and ready for pick up. Help us keep Ajax clean and green. Perfect activity for individuals and/or families (no groups permitted). Participants should follow all Covid public health guidelines, including gathering limits. If you want to participate, contact operations@ajax.ca or 905-683-2951 to pick up your toolkit (gloves and bags) today.
  • Ask an Expert: Climate Change in Durham Region – What Can We Do Now? (April 22 | 7 – 8 p.m. | Online): Learn about climate change and how the rise of greenhouse gases will impact Durham Region. Find out what residents, businesses, government, and you can to do make a difference! Watch the recording.
  • Container Gardening (April 27 | 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. | Online): Learn about decorative and vegetable container gardening from local gardening expert, Ken Brown. Learn how to plant a beautiful, decorative containers and how to successfully grow delicious, fresh vegetables. Register.
  • Gardening in a Changing Climate (May 4 | 6:30 – 8 p.m. | Online): Climate change is rapidly impacting natural spaces on both a local and global scale, including our yards. This is an introductory gardening webinar with a focus on climate change resiliency including rainwater harvesting, native plant gardening, rain gardens, and permeable paving. Register.
  • Microplastics: Tiny But Dangerous (June 17 | 6:30 – 8 p.m. | Online): Microplastics are tiny bits of plastic that often go unnoticed in beaches, parks and urban areas – but the impacts they cause are anything but small! Learn about microplastics, from what they are and why they are a problem, to what we can do to make a difference! Register.

  • Green Living Days is presented In partnership with the Ajax Public Library and the Toronto Region Conservation Authority.
  • Ajax prides itself on environmental sustainability and those efforts have continued despite the Covid pandemic.
  • After declaring a climate emergency in 2019 to acknowledge the impacts of climate change in Ajax, the Town is focusing on three environmental priorities in 2021— dealing with invasive species, emergency preparedness and response, and wetland creation and restoration.
