Today, members of Ajax Council visited the newly opened Maestro’s Gourmet Pizza & Gelato at Pat Bayly Square to launch the Town’s new 20/20 Focus: COVID-19 Business Recovery & Growth Plan. The strategic document was endorsed by Council at Monday’s Special Council Meeting. The timely plan highlights 20 ways the Town can collaboratively support local businesses as they recover from the effects of mandated COVID-19 shutdowns.

The plan includes “made for Ajax actions”, adding to our partnership efforts as members of the Durham Economic Task Force and complementing programs and services offered by other levels of government.

20/20 Focus area highlights include:

  • Launching a COVID-19 business recovery resource webpage
  • Fast-tracking patio permit process
  • Relaxing mobile signs for business rules
  • Continuing #SupportLocal and #TakeOutDay campaigns
  • Expanding innovation programming, including siberXchange 2.0
  • Reimaging tourism support, including reintroduction of the Bike Friendly Business program
  • Facilitating relevant and timely business conversations
  • Developing a five-year Economic Development Action Plan

“One of Council’s top priorities is the health and vitality of our business community. To bolster our local businesses, we are cutting as much red tape as possible to facilitate faster recovery, and making information readily available. Last night’s Council endorsement of the 20/20 Focus plan reaffirms the Town’s commitment to continued listening and partnership with our business community, and is a timely development as Durham Region enters Stage 3 of the Province’s reopening framework.” – Mayor Shaun Collier

“We know local businesses are an integral part of our community. The programs and initiatives outlined in the 20/20 Focus document reflect our value and care for our business community, and our commitment to support businesses’ recovery in the short-term, while creating conditions for them to thrive in the future.” – Don Terry, Interim Manager of Economic Development
