The Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) is an adjudicative tribunal that hears cases related to a range of municipal planning, financial, environmental, and land matters. The OLT plays an important role in the province’s land use planning system and is an independent public body where people can appeal land use planning decisions that affect their property or community.
The OLT was formerly known as the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal (LPAT), itself preceded by the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) which was the first independent, quasi-judicial administrative tribunal in the Province of Ontario. Matters considered by the OLT include official plans, zoning by-laws, subdivision plans, consents (land division) and minor variances, land compensations, development charges, electoral ward boundaries, municipal finances, aggregate resources, and other issues outlined in Ontario statutes.
For additional information on the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT), to appeal a municipal decision or non-decision, or to check the status of an ongoing case, please visit the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) website.
