Supporting Local – The Interdependencies of our Ajax Favourites and Visitor Attractions

Now more than ever our local businesses need community support. In particular is the support for tourism related businesses – our restaurants, attractions, accommodations, local plazas and main street businesses. Support for these businesses is an action that impacts an entire community. Tourism businesses depend on each other as well as other local businesses and the community as whole. These interdependencies can be felt far and wide, and it is important to understand the economic impact tourism has on our local economy.

For example, a local restaurant or attraction such as hotel, community centre or golf course, requires local staff, and in most cases, local supply chains for ingredients and services (uniforms, supplies, accounting, advertising, etc.). These entities increase the visits to other nearby establishments such as gas stations, convenience stores, retail shopping, etc., and also encourage repeat visits.

Spending locally increases the livelihood and likelihood of local business survival. These are the organizations that support our local teams, participate in local events, and hire our teens. It is NOW that we need to support them. Here’s HOW:

Shop small businesses online: even though their doors may be closed, many businesses are still offering on-line sales and incentives with no-contact shipping/delivery
Order take-out or delivery: show your support to restaurants/eateries that are still offering take-away options by ordering at home, and offer no-contact delivery
Purchase a gift card for future use: you may have to wait to use it but it provides cash to the business now when they need it most
Submit a positive review online for your favourite business – get out there online and start saying thank you to your favourite spots in Ajax.
Connect on-line by following a few more local businesses and commenting on their posts – share the news of our business-to-business organizations, help them to promote their services, from accounting, graphic design, computer programming and many more!
Attend an on-line fitness or yoga workout: many fitness providers are offering classes from home virtually, join and then brag that you joined the session!
Support a local not-for-profit/charity: to the extent that you are able, please donate directly to local not-for-profits and charities to ensure that critical support continues to be available to those most vulnerable in our community.

Start now! Get online and start saying thank you to your favourite restaurants, café’s, clothing stores, dance studios, mechanics and of course our local pubs! (And don’t forget your favourite servers, cashiers, instructors and oil changers!)
