“Get Future Ready” with upNext Ajax, a free entrepreneur and employment experience program for young adults between the ages of 18-29.

Originally introduced by Ajax Council in 2015 to address the high unemployment rate among youth, upNext Ajax has proven to equip participants with relevant skills and industry connections to find employment or launch their own enterprise in their respective fields of interest.

The 2021 online academy will commence on June 22, and feature a four-week curriculum focusing on Employment Skills (Week 1), Entrepreneurship (Week 2), Real World Marketing (Week 3) and Future Tech (Week 4). Participants of the program will gain new skills and real-world experience in a flexible online format consisting of a mix of on-demand learning modules and live sessions.

Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Town of Ajax, LinkedIn endorsements, valuable community connections, and access to participate in the new Ajax Works Café, all of which will equip them for the job market or to launch a business of their own.

To participate, applicants must be:

  • Between the ages of 18-29
  • Unemployed or underemployed (working less than 20 hours per week)
  • Available for four weekly live sessions, Tuesday mornings from June 22-July 13
  • Have access to a computer with wi-fi connection

Confirmed event partners include Kleurvision, Durham College (AI Hub and Centre for Cyber Security), Business Advisory Centre of Durham (BACD) and Agilec, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
