Ajax is a designated Bicycle Friendly Community, home to a safe and connected 140km cycling network that encompasses off-road trails, dedicated bike lanes and shared use lanes.  The Town is a leader when it comes to investing in cycling infrastructure to improve the safety, connectivity and convenience of its network. Recent improvements include the construction of new off-road trails and the installation of a bike repair station and tire air pump in the Pickering Village Urban Square.

In the wake of COVID-19, a record number of residents are dusting off their bikes and exploring Ajax by bike, and businesses are realizing the positive impact.

If you are an Ajax business, what does this mean for you?

Many businesses, such as the Bean and Basket in Pickering Village, have seen an increase in visitation from customers arriving on two wheels.

In a recent Global News Feature Story, Elaine Evangelista, co-owner of the shop told reporters, “(Cyclists are) coming from Toronto, they’re coming from Whitby, and they’re cycling from further away, so it would be very important for us to be able to attract people here so they can come not just see the shop but also see the area, see the neighbourhood.”

As the number of cyclists continues to grow in numbers, many are looking for bike friendly businesses to visit as they explore our Town by bike. Making your establishment more “bike friendly” opens up opportunities to attract new customers and clients of all ages and cycling ability.

How do I become more “bike friendly”?
