From events to activities - find your perfect way to participate this spring!

The Town’s annual Ajax Green Living Days (GLD) programming encourages residents to come together as a community for a cleaner and greener Ajax. This spring, enjoy a variety of free activities, from helping the environment in your own backyard, to joining a home flood‑protection webinar, taking part in a community tree‑planting event, participating in the spring clean‑up challenge and more!

Ajax GLD activities:

  • Spring Clean-Up Challenge (April - June): Take part in the Town’s Spring Clean-Up Challenge! If you want to participate, contact operations@ajax.ca or 905-683-2951 to pick up your toolkit (gloves and bags) today.
  • Ajax Mature Tree Conservation Program (Ongoing): Protect your mature tree and get money back! The Town is offering rebates to help residents maintain and care for their mature trees. To learn more and to see if your tree maintenance qualifies visit ajax.ca/maturetreeprogram.
  • Earth Hour 2026: Give an Hour for Earth (Saturday, March 28 | 8:30 – 9:30 p.m.): Join the Town of Ajax and switch off for Earth Hour! Spend 60 minutes doing something positive for our planet. One hour, shared by millions, can become the Biggest Hour for Earth. Protect the planet in your own style, explore actions that match your interests and make a real impact.
  • Council Clean-Up (Tuesday, April 21 | 10 – 11 a.m. | Duffins Village Central Park, access to parking lot off of Stannardville Drive): As a part of Green Living Days and the Spring Clean-Up Challenge, join Ajax Council on their clean-up day to help keep Ajax clean and green.
  • Compost Giveaway Event (Saturday, April 25 | 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. | Operations Centre, 800 Salem Rd. N.): While supplies last, residents may fill up to four blue boxes of mulch or compost. It is asked that residents bring their own shovel for this event and consider bringing a food donation, as we will be collecting for Feed the Need in Durham.
  • Community Tree Planting Event (Saturday, April 25 | 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Greenwood Conservation Area, North Flats, 2290 Greenwood Rd., Ajax): To celebrate Green Living Days, the Town of Ajax is partnering with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) for a Community Tree Planting Event at Greenwood Conversation Area (North Flats) by planting 1,300 native trees and shrubs. Bring your shovel and gloves to this rain or shine event to help enhance the canopy cover of the conservation area. Some equipment may be supplied by the Town of Ajax and TRCA. Weather and activity appropriate clothing, including closed-toed shoes, are strongly encouraged. Event hours will count towards high school volunteer hours. Registration is encouraged.
  • Gardening for Birds, Butterflies & Beyond (Thursday, April 30 | 6:30 – 8 p.m. | Ajax Public Library, Main Branch, 55 Harwood Avenue South): Helping the environment starts in your own backyard. Learn how to attract and protect native pollinators, such as Monarch butterflies and Ruby-throated Hummingbirds with beautiful landscape features. Participants will receive free gardening fact sheets and guides. Presented in partnership with the TRCA. Registration is required
  • Bird Watching By the Lake (Tuesday, May 5 | 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. | Walk starts at Carruthers Marsh Pavilion, 55 Ashbury Boulevard, Ajax): Grab your binoculars and join Toronto and Region Conservation Authority in partnership with Accessible Ajax and Age-Friendly Ajax for a guided birding watching walk along the Ajax waterfront as we look for migratory birds returning for the spring! As spring migration begins, the lakefront serves as a vital rest stop for birds journeying across Lake Ontario, making it a great location to view these spectacular travelers. Whether you are a beginner or an expert birder, all are welcome! Binoculars will be provided to those who don't have a pair of their own. Registration is required.
  • Provincial Day of Action on Litter (Tuesday, May 12): Take action to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills or becoming litter by bringing awareness to the impacts of waste on our environment and encouraging people to take action at home and in their community. For more details, visit ontario.ca/page/act-on-litter.
  • Climate Ready Homes: Home Flood Protection Webinar (Wednesday, May 20 | 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. | Virtual): Join the Climate Ready Homes: Home Flood Protection Webinar, in partnership with TRCA and presented by Intact Centre, where you'll learn about common home flooding issues, practical solutions and tips to address them, and information about available rebate and incentive programs. Registration is required.
