Effective immediately, Don Terry will assume the role of Interim Manager of Economic Development on a contract basis. Don will lead the Town’s COVID-19 Business Recovery Plan and economic development portfolio to ensure a seamless and successful transition during these critical times.

A well-respected community leader, Don has been actively involved in local and regional community and EcD initiatives since retiring from a 30-plus year public affairs career at OPG. In the past seven years, Don has contributed to developing partnerships and products to enhance existing initiatives and capture new opportunities.  

Recently, Don represented a consortium of eight of the largest and innovative employers in Durham Region to host Idea Summit and collision events to explore the opportunity and need for an east-GTA innovation hub. He led the completion of a feasibility study, including potential funding and locations, for an innovation hub with campuses across Durham Region. 

Serving as Chair of Sport Durham Advisory Committee, he helped develop and launch a sport tourism initiative recognizing and leveraging the economic benefits for Durham Region. Further, Don was co-chair of the successful Durham Region 2019 Ontario Parasport Games. The Games garnered $700K in economic impact for the Region and a Games Legacy Fund of $112K. The Economic Developers Council of Ontario recognized the Games with their 2019 Award of Excellence for Tourism Attraction & Tourism Product Development and the prestigious and coveted Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Economic Development Excellence. The Games are also a finalist for several additional awards.

As a college professor at Durham College for the past six years, Don also recognizes the importance of our educational institutions in achieving sustainable economic development and promoting entrepreneurship and technological advances.
