Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week is an annual event that takes place across the country during the first full week of May and is an opportunity to encourage Canadians to take actions to be better prepared to protect themselves and their families during emergencies.
This year, the theme is: Plan for Every Season.
During EP Week, Ajax Fire and Emergency Services encourages households to sit down and discuss the possibility of emergency situations. Knowing your risks can help you and your family be prepared. Make sure you think of the risks where you live. Prepare a 72-Hour kit for your home and pack a “Go Bag” with supplies in case you need to evacuate.

“This year’s EP theme is Plan for Every Season. Certain emergencies are more likely to happen at various times of year. We can have severe storms during the winter and summer months. Power outages can happen throughout the year. Emergencies such as floods are more apt to happen during the spring and summer; however, human-caused emergencies could happen at any time. It’s important to be prepared in advance. Prepare a “Go Bag” for everyone in your family in case we must evacuate. Items packed ahead of time would include a change of clothes, toothbrush, copies of important documents, etc. Also, make sure you have a 72-Hour Kit including supplies such as a flashlight, non-perishable food, bottles or bagged water, manual can opener, etc. in case we need to shelter-in-place or stay in our homes for a few days.” - Shelley Langer, Fire Prevention Inspector, Town of Ajax
