Grow your own food and help preserve biodiversity with our free Seed Library! Whether you're an experienced gardener or just starting out, our collection of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds is here for you to borrow, plant, and enjoy.

What is a Seed Library?
It's simple and free—choose your seeds, plant them, and, if possible, save some seeds to return and help keep the library going year after year. Together, we can build a greener, more sustainable community—one seed at a time!
Where is the Seed Library located?

The Seed Library is located at the Ajax Public Library- Main Branch. On behalf of customers, branch staff will request seed packets be put in the courier for pickup at other branch locations (Audley, McLean, Grandview Express).

When is the Seed Library open?
The Seed Library at the Main Branch is open from March to October during regular library hours for seed pickup; however, seed donations are accepted year-round.
How does the Seed Library work?
 Borrowing Seeds
Durham Region residents can visit the main branch library and browse the variety of seed options. Please note there is a limit of 3 packets per person.
Returning Seeds

Seed donations can be placed in donations box beside the seed library NOT in the book return. We accept clean, mature seeds from open-pollinated vegetables, fruits, herbs, and wildflowers that are clearly labeled with their type. We do not accept invasive species or seeds from plants that require special legal considerations.

 Labeling Seeds

Please provide as much detail on seeds as possible Ex. Common Name, Variety, Date Collected, Best Growing Conditions, purchased vs collected).
