Volunteer Program

Become a Volunteer

There are three easy steps to become a volunteer:

  1. Fill out an online application form to create your volunteer account;
  2. Complete a volunteer training workshop;
  3. Sign up for volunteer shifts!

Volunteer Training

  • Volunteer training takes place four times a year, before each program season (i.e. Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer);
  • Volunteers sign up for training through their online volunteer account;
  • If a volunteer misses the current training workshop, they will have to wait until the next program season to sign up for training.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteer requirements include:

  • Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to apply;
  • A Volunteer Parent / Guardian Waiver Form must be filled out for volunteers under 18 years of age;
  • A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required for volunteers 16 years of age and older;

Please note: some volunteer opportunities include additional requirements

Volunteer Criminal Reference Checks

How do I get a criminal reference check?

  • Volunteers can apply for a criminal reference check through Durham Regional Police Services;
  • Volunteers who do not live in Durham Region need to apply in the region in which they live;
  • Criminal reference checks are at a cost to the volunteer. The Town of Ajax will provide a letter once a volunteer has completed training which allows access to a discounted rate for the criminal reference check.
