
Ten ways to participate throughout the community!
The Town’s annual Ajax Green Living Days (GLD) programming encourages residents to work together as a community for a cleaner and greener Ajax. There are many free activities available to participate in this April and May with a focus on sustainable living, various tips on gardening, workshops that take a closer look at monarchs, pollinators and the first wildflowers of the season, a community tree planting event in celebration of the Town’s 70th anniversary, picking up litter during the Spring Clean-Up Challenge and more!
2025 Ajax GLD activities:
- Sustainable Home Expo (April 4 | 2 – 7 p.m. | McLean Community Centre, 95 Magill Drive): Join us at the McLean Community Centre for an exciting day dedicated to sustainable living! Gain valuable insights, explore energy-saving programs like Durham Greener Homes and Enbridge's Home Renovation Savings, and discover practical ways to make your home more eco-friendly. Learn about eco-landscaping and opportunities to contribute to a greener Ajax. Thinking about purchasing an electric vehicle? Plug'N Drive will be onsite to answer your questions, and you'll even have the chance to test drive an EV! Plus, registered attendees will be entered into a door prize draw for some fantastic giveaways—don’t miss out! Registration is required.
- The Biggest Little Farm - Documentary Screening (April 16 | 6 – 8 p.m. | St. Francis Centre for Community, Arts and Culture, 78 Church Street South): Join us for a special screening of The Biggest Little Farm at the St. Francis Centre for Community, Arts, and Culture! This heartwarming documentary follows a couple as they leave city life behind to pursue their dream of sustainable farming. Experience their inspiring journey, filled with challenges, triumphs and the beauty of nature, all on the big screen. Attendees will have a chance to win a door prize! Enjoy free popcorn while supplies last! Registration is required.
- Egg Carton Planters (April 17 | 6 – 7 p.m. | Ajax Public Library – Audley Branch, 1955 Audley Road): Plant your way to a happy Earth Day by creating planters out of egg cartons! Supplies will be provided but please dress for mess. No registration required.
- Wings, Blooms and Buzz (April 19 | 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Greenwood Conservation Area, 2290 Greenwood Road, Ajax): Let’s celebrate the return of spring with a closer look at monarchs, pollinators and the first wildflowers of the season! This workshop will feature an informative talk on the challenges monarch butterflies face and what we can do to help. Then, we’ll go on a guided walk-through Greenwood Conservation Area to observe early pollinators and discuss ways to support pollinators at home. Registration is required.
- Compost Giveaway Event (April 26 | 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Operations Centre, 800 Salem Road North - Enter from Salem Road): While supplies last, residents may fill up to the equivalent of four blue boxes of mulch or compost. It is asked that residents bring their own shovel for this event. Food donations will be accepted, as items will be collected for Feed The Need Durham.
- Town of Ajax 70th Anniversary Community Tree Planting (April 26 | 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Southeast corner of 5th Concession Road and Sideline 16 - the site access is off 5th Concession Road, approximately 150m east of Sideline 16): In celebration of the Town of Ajax’s 70th anniversary, we are partnering with TRCA and Trees for Life for a community tree planting event at the Greenwood Conversation Lands (Brock South). 700 native trees and shrubs will be planted to form a maple leaf, creating a "Welcome Forest" for new Canadians and to celebrate the Town, the Canadian flag, and all those that have chosen to call Ajax home. This is a rain or shine event. Shovels will be provided. Weather and activity appropriate clothing, including closed-toed shoes, are strongly encouraged. Registration is encouraged.
- From Shade to Splendor - An Urban Gardening Workshop (April 27 | 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Greenwood Conservation Area, 2290 Greenwood Road, Ajax): Embrace the shade and learn how to garden with native plants! In this interactive workshop, we’ll discuss the best native species for shady yards, tips for urban gardening, and the importance of early spring wildflowers. After the presentation, we’ll explore Greenwood Conservation Area on a guided walk to observe delicate forest ephemerals in bloom. Registration is required.
- Ask an Expert: Climate Change in Durham Region (April 30 | 7 – 8 p.m. | Ajax Public Library - Main Branch | 55 Harwood Avenue South): Learn about climate change and how the rise of greenhouse gases is impacting our community. Find out what residents, businesses, government and you can do to make a difference! This session will be presented by climate change expert, Dr. Daniel Hoornweg, an Associate Professor at Ontario Tech University. Registration is required.
- Provincial Day of Action on Litter (May 13): Reduce the amount of waste going to landfills or becoming litter by bringing awareness to the impacts of waste on our environment and encouraging people to take action at home and in their community. - Spring Clean-Up Challenge (April - June): The Town’s Spring Clean-Up Toolkits are back and ready for pick up. Help us keep Ajax clean and green. If you want to participate, contact operations@ajax.ca or 905-683-2951 to pick up your toolkit (gloves and bags) today.

- Ajax prides itself on environmental sustainability and those efforts have continued throughout each year.
- All GLD events this year are available in person.
- Celebrate the Town’s 70th anniversary with a special Community Tree Planting Event in partnership with Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and Trees for Life.
- High school students have the opportunity to earn volunteer hours at the Community Tree Planting Event.
