There are a number of ways to pay your tax bill:

Online through your financial institution

You will need your 15 digit roll number to pay your taxes online. If you do not have your roll number contact the Tax Section.

Each financial institution has the option to register the Town under whatever name they choose. Common names include:

  • Bank of Montreal – Ajax City of, Taxes
  • CIBC – Ajax Taxes
  • Royal Bank – Ajax Ont, Town of – taxes
  • TD Canada Trust – Ajax Taxes
  • Tangerine – Town of Ajax, taxes

If you cannot find us under one of these names, please contact your financial institution to ask for assistance.

Directions may be slightly different depending on your bank:

  • Sign on to your financial institution’s web banking site
  • Select “Pay Bills”
  • Select “Add a Payee” or “Find a Payee” - search for AJAX TAXES
  • Add the payee and enter the roll number
  • Enter the amount of your payment
  • Submit the payment and record your confirmation number
Pre-Authorized Payment Plan 

For your convenience, set up pre-authorized automatic withdrawals from your bank account to pay your taxes either monthly or four times per year. To set up pre-authorized payments, you need to:

Include your roll number on the front of your cheque. Cheques made payable to the Town of Ajax can be current dated or post-dated to the corresponding due dates. Make sure to send your payment well in advance of the due date.

Online by credit card, PayPal or eTransfer

You will need your 15-digit roll number to make a payment; the roll number is formatted: 0x00xxxxxxx0000.

Visit PaySimply, our secure third party payment provider, to pay online with any major credit card, PayPal or Interac eTransfer.  Please allow a minimum of 3 business days for processing. 

A convenience fee will be applied to cover payment handling and processing charges. Please visit the PaySimply website for their terms and conditions, convenience fees, payment processing times or any other inquiries.

Credit card payments for property taxes cannot be processed in person at Town Hall or over the telephone with Tax Section staff.

In person

We continue to encourage residents to make payments using one of the multiple contactless options available; however, walk-in/in-person payments can be made at Town Hall. You can also book an appointment to visit our office.

24-hour drop box

You can drop your payment off at Town Hall any time using our 24- hour drop box. The drop box is located at the parking lot entrance to Town Hall at 65 Harwood Ave S. CHEQUES ONLY, include your roll number on the front of your cheque.

At banks or financial institutions

You can pay your tax bill at any participating bank of financial institution. Just show them the bill and make your payment.

Through a mortgage company 
Make arrangements to pay your property taxes with your mortgage company. Contact your mortgage company directly for details.

Late payments

If you are late paying your taxes, a penalty charge of 1.25 percent will be added on the first business day of each month until we receive the payment. Payments are applied first towards the outstanding interest and then to the oldest outstanding taxes.

If you are sending a cheque, payment is considered to be made on the date it is received and posted in the Finance department, not on the date it is mailed.

If you are paying at a bank, through online or telephone banking, or using the third party credit option, payment is considered made on the date the bank tells us you paid.
