More than just a convenient way to check your balance, the portal helps you stay on top of your payments and access important information whenever you need it.
  • Easily access your past payments - When filing your income taxes, you may need to report the property taxes you paid in the previous year. With the portal, you can check this information at your convenience, without searching for old statements.
  • Stay informed on upcoming due dates - View your next property tax installment and never miss a payment.
  • Check billing and payment schedules - The portal includes a message board where you can see upcoming bill dates and other important updates.
  • Track your property tax details anytime, anywhere - Instead of waiting for a mailed bill or calling Town Hall, you can access your account 24/7 and get the information you need instantly.
  • Update your mailing address - Do you have a rental property in Ajax? Request a mailing address update through the portal to ensure that all bills and notices will be delivered to your principal residence.
How to Get Started

To use the portal, you’ll need three pieces of information from your most recent property tax bill. Follow these steps to register and log in:

 Step 1: Gather Your Information

Before you begin, have your latest property tax bill ready. You’ll need:

  • A valid email address - This will be used to verify your account and send important updates.
  • Your roll number - Located on your tax bill (see example below).
  • Your access code - Located on your tax bill (see example below).
  • Your full name exactly as it appears on your tax bill - Including any middle initials, hyphens, or special characters.

Important Note:

Format Matters: Names are typically displayed in Last Name First Name format, and may include middle name, middle initials, hyphens, commas or other special characters. Be sure to enter it exactly as shown.

Multiple Owners: If there are multiple property owners listed on the tax bill, each person can register separately using their own name as it appears on the bill.

Multiple Properties: You only need to register once.  After creating your account, you will have the option to add additional properties from within the portal.

 Step 2: Visit the Property Tax Portal

 Step 3: Register for an Account

1. Click “Register” to create your account.

  • This will take you to the registration page.

2. Review and accept the Terms of Use.

  • Before continuing, you’ll see a brief notice about privacy and system use. Simply review and click “Accept” at the bottom of the page to proceed.

3. Enter your roll number, access code, and name exactly as shown on your property tax bill.

  • Your name must match exactly – typically Last Name followed by First Name, including any middle initials, hyphens, or special characters.
  • Carefully enter your access code – Some characters may look similar.  Be sure to distinguish between: the number 0 (zero) and the letter O (capital o), as well as the number 1 (one) and the letter I (capital i).

4. Enter your property details.

  • Street Number: Type only the number portion of your address (e.g., for 123 Main Street, enter “123”).
  • Unit Number (if applicable): If you live in an apartment, condo, or multi-unit building, enter your unit number.
  • Street Name: Select your street from the drop-down list. You can also start typing to find it quickly.

5. Provide a valid email address and create a secure password.

  • Your email will be used for account verification and future login assistance.

6. Set a security question and answer.

  • Choose a question from the drop-down list and provide an answer.
  • This helps protect your account and allows you to reset your password if needed.

7. Tick the box “I agree that the above information is correct, and I am ready to submit my registration”.  Then tick the box “I’m not a robot” to confirm.

8. Click the Register button.

9. After completing registration, you will receive an e-mail confirming that your account has been created. This e-mail will include a link to log in to the property tax portal.

 
 Step 4: Log In and Explore

Once registered, login anytime to:

  • View your tax balance and due dates.
  • Review your transaction history.
  • View your current value assessment.
  • Update your mailing address (if applicable).

Dashboard Overview 
After logging in, you’ll see a snapshot of your account across the top of the screen, including:
  • Your name and property address
  • Account and roll number
  • Mailing address (if different from the property address)
  • Access code

If you have more than one property, use the dropdown menu to switch between accounts.

Account Summary Tab
This section provides a high-level view of your tax account:
  • Current balance and recent billings
  • Message board with Town updates
  • Levy breakdown (Town, Region, Education portions)
  • Chart showing levy history over time
  • Contact information if you need support
Transaction History Tab
Easily review your past payments and charges:
  • View transactions organized by year
  • Expand each year to see full details

General Information
What is the Property Tax Portal?
The Property Tax Portal is an online platform that allows property owners to conveniently and securely access their property tax information. Through the portal, you can:
  • View your tax account balance.
  • Check payment history and upcoming due dates.
  • Update your contact details.
Who can use the portal?
The portal is available to all property owners in the Town of Ajax. If you are listed on a property tax bill, you can register for an account and access your property tax details.
 How do I access the portal?
The portal can be accessed online from any computer, tablet, or smartphone at https://etax.ajax.ca/. There is no need to download an app - simply log in through your web browser.
Account Registration & Login
What information do I need to register?
You will need:
  • Your most recent Tax bill
  • Your roll number (found on your tax bill).
  • Your name exactly as it appears on your tax bill.
  • A valid email address.
  • A secure password of your choice.  
How do I create an account?
To register for the Property Tax Portal, follow these steps:
  1. Visit https://etax.ajax.ca/.
  2. Click “Register” and enter your personal details.
  3. Review and accept the Terms of Use.
  4. Provide your roll number (found on your property tax bill).
  5. Provide your access code (found on your property tax bill).
  6. Enter your name exactly as it appears on your tax bill (including middle initials, special characters, etc., if applicable) in the order shown on the bill.
  7. Fill in your address information.
  8. Provide a valid email address and create a secure password, including providing a security question and answer.
  9. An email will be received to confirm you have created an account.
Why is my name not being recognized during registration?
Your name must match the exact format used on your property tax bill. In most cases, this means entering your last name first, followed by your first name.  If you have a middle initial or a special character (such as an apostrophe or hyphen), be sure to include it. If you’re still experiencing issues, contact our Tax Department at 905-683-2718 or email tax@ajax.ca for assistance.
Can multiple owners register for the same property?
Yes. Each owner listed on the property tax bill can create their own account using their own name and email address. When registering, make sure to enter your name exactly as it appears on the tax bill (typically last name first, followed by first name and any middle initials or special characters).

Once registered, each owner will have individual access to the property tax information through their own account.

What if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, click “Forgot Password?” on the login page and follow the instructions to reset it. A password reset link will be sent to your registered email.
Can I change the email address associated with my account?

Yes, you can update your email in the Account Profile tab. A verification email will be sent to your new address to confirm the change. It will become effective within a few business days.

Using the Portal
What information can I see in the portal?
Once logged in, you can:
  • View your current tax balance.
  • See payment due dates and amounts.
  • Access past tax payment records.
  • Update your contact information.
How can I make a property tax payment?
The portal provides information about your property tax balance, but payments must be made through one of the Town’s accepted methods:

Online banking: Add “Ajax Taxes” (most banks) as a payee and use your roll number as the account number.  If you have trouble adding Ajax Taxes, please contact our Tax Department at 905-683-2718 or email tax@ajax.ca for assistance.

In person: Pay at Town Hall, 65 Harwood Ave S, Ajax, via debit, cash, or cheque.

By mail: Send a cheque payable to “Town of Ajax” with your roll number in the memo.

Financial institutions: Pay at any financial institution or bank with a copy of your tax bill.

How do I request a copy of a tax bill or a statement of account?

At this time, tax bills and statements cannot be downloaded through the online portal. If you need a copy, a $22.70 fee will apply; there are 2 ways to proceed:

  1. Pay in person at Town Hall, 65 Harwood Ave. S, Ajax, ON and receive the document at that time;
  2. Email tax@ajax.ca and provide your name, property address and authorization to add the fee to your tax account; the document will be emailed within 2 business days

We are exploring options to make tax bill downloads available online in the future. Stay tuned for updates.

Can I sign up for E-billing to receive my tax bill electronically?
E-billing is not available at this time. However, we are continually exploring ways to enhance our online services. Stay tuned for updates.
Can I update my mailing address through the portal?
Yes, the portal allows you to update your mailing address through the Account Profile tab. Any changes will be reviewed by the Tax Department before being applied to your account.
Will I continue to receive paper tax bills if I use the portal?
Yes, at this time, you will still receive a physical tax bill in the mail.

What browsers and devices are supported?
The portal works on most modern web browsers, including:
  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox

You can access it from a desktop, tablet, or smartphone.

Why can't I log in to my account?
If you’re having trouble logging in:
  • Ensure you are entering the correct email and password.
  • Try resetting your password if needed.
  • Clear your browser cache and try again.
  • Ensure your internet connection is stable.
What should I do if I don't receive a password reset email?
Check your spam/junk folder.

Make sure you’re using the correct email address registered with your account.
