Applying to Jobs

You may review the information below on how to apply for jobs at the Town of Ajax, how to create your Candidate Home Account and how to check your status once you have submitted your application. 

 How do I create a Candidate Home Account?

To apply for jobs, you will first need to create a Candidate Home account. This normally occurs the first time you submit your application. 

  • At the top of the careers page, you can select Search for Jobs to view the current list of job openings.
  • Select a Job Title to view the details of the position. If you are interested in the position, select Apply.
  • On the Start Application window, select one of the following options:
    • Autofill with Resume - provides the opportunity to upload your resume and have it parse into the application fields to save you time.
    • Use My Last Application – automatically populates the information you provided on your last application to save you time.
    • Apply Manually - allows you to enter your education/job details into the application fields manually.
  • On the Create Account window, you will enter your email address and a password. Note: you will find the password requirements on this window.  To proceed with your application, you are required to check the box, “I understand and acknowledge the terms of use for the Corporation of the Town of Ajax”. Select Create Account.  Your candidate home account has now been created.
 How do I apply for jobs with the Town?

At the top of the careers page, you can select Sign In, then select Search for Jobs to view the current list of job opportunities.

  • Select a Job Title to view the details of the position. If you are interested in the position, select Apply.
  • On the Start Application window, select one of the following options:
    • Autofill with Resume - provides the opportunity to upload your resume and have it parse into the application fields to save you time.
    • Use My Last Application – automatically populates the information you provided on your last application to save you time.
    • Apply Manually - allows you to enter your education/job details into the application fields manually.
  • Follow the steps below to apply for a position:
    • My Information - Enter your personal information in the required fields. If you selected Autofill with Resume you will automatically skip this step and move to My Experience.
    • My Experience - You may upload your resume and attachments under the Resume/CV section.  If you choose to autofill with your resume, the information from your resume will automatically populate in the Work Experience and Education fields. May you review the information for accuracy.
    • Application Questions - Complete any job-related pre-screening questions (if applicable).
    • Voluntary Disclosures – To proceed with your application, you are required to read the Terms and Conditions and check the box, “I understand and acknowledge the terms of use for the Corporation of the Town of Ajax.”.
    • Review – This is your opportunity to review your application to ensure the information is accurate.  If changes are required, you may go back through the application steps to correct any information. If you are happy with your application, select Submit. Your application has been submitted.
How do I know if my online application was received?
You will receive an automated email to confirm that your application was received. You may also log into your Candidate Home Account and click on Candidate Home to view the jobs you have applied to under My Applications
 How do I delete or update my application after it's been submitted?
As long as the position is still posted online, you have the option to review/delete your application.

Login to your Candidate Home Account. On the top right corner of the screen, select Candidate Home. Go to My Applications and find the position you want to review/delete. Under Actions you will click on the three dots and select Withdraw Application. You will then confirm your selection.

If you are resubmitting your application, please be mindful of the posting closing date as you will not have the option to resubmit once the posting has closed.

 How do I update my contact information?
Login to your Candidate Home Account. On the top right corner of the screen, select Settings. You have the option to update your personal information or change your email. Select the option you want to update and enter the new information and select Save. If you are changing your email, you will click on Send Link and you will receive a link from the system to verify that you are requesting to change your email. 
 How do I create a Job Alert?
Job Alerts will notify you when the Town of Ajax has a new job opening that aligns with your interest. You must sign up to receive a job alert.

Log into your Candidate Home Account. On the top right corner of the screen, select Job Alerts, then click on Create Job Alert button and enter the information required. Click Manage if you wish to add/delete or modify the frequency of any job alert.

 Who do I contact if I'm experiencing technical difficulties submitting my application?
You may email careers@ajax.ca if you need assistance with submitting your application.
What internet browser is the Career Site compatible with?
The career site works most effectively with Chrome but it also works with other browsers.
General Questions
I missed the job posting deadline. Can I still apply?
We are unable to accept applications after the job posting has been closed.  Every job opportunity has a closing date indicated on the job posting, and your application must be received by the closing date. 
Note: Job posting close at 11:59 p.m. on the date indicated in the job posting.
Do I have to submit my application electronically?

Yes, we only accept electronic applications at this time. 

Note: Resumes/applications that are emailed, mailed or dropped off will not be considered 

Do you offer summer student employment?

Operations Summer Student positions are posted to the website from November to January. Students are responsible for performing grounds maintenance tasks including mowing grass, trimming, annual planting of flowers, trees and shrubs and/or assist in general roads maintenance, construction activities and special event set-ups. Some positions require a valid G driver’s license.

Summer Camps and Playground positions are posted to the website in November, January and March.  Students are responsible for planning and implementing a safe, enjoyable and diverse program for participants aged 2.5-16 years of age. Candidates are required to hold valid Standard First with CPR C and High Five Principles of early Child Development. Note: Some positions require a valid G driver’s license.

Do you hire seasonal positions?
Yes, watch for seasonal positions on our website from February - April.  Seasonal positions work up to 150 days from April to November.  Seasonal employees may assist with special events, conduct repairs to lawn maintenance equipment or assist with ongoing maintenance of Town facilities, parks, and roads.  Candidates are required to hold a valid G driver’s license.
Will I be required to provide a Criminal Record Check?
As a condition of employment you will be required to provide the Town with a criminal record check which must be dated within six (6) months of the employment offer to be considered valid. Some positions work with the vulnerable population therefore a vulnerable sector check is required, and you will find this information in the job posting.
Does the Town offer accommodation during the recruitment process?
The Town of Ajax offers accommodation for candidates with disabilities during the recruitment process. If selected for an interview, you will be provided with an opportunity to indicate your access needs. We are committed to ensuring an accessible and respectful hiring process.
What are the next steps in the process after submitting my application?
If you are moving forward in the recruitment process, you will receive an email notification with details about the next steps in the process and you can also view the invitation in your Candidate Home Account.

You may log into your Candidate Home Account at any time to update your email address to ensure that you do not miss any time sensitive emails from the Town.

My application is listed as under consideration. What does that mean?
If your application is listed as “Under Consideration” that means that the Town is currently reviewing all applications, including yours. This is the first step of the recruitment process. If you are chosen to move forward in the process, you will be contacted for an interview. Otherwise, you will be notified by the status change in your Candidate Home Account that you are no longer being considered for the job. You can log back in at any time to view your status.
How long will my application status be listed as under consideration?
Each job posting has a unique timeline for reviewing applications. Most positions are posted for approximately 14 days, but some postings are posted for 3-4 weeks. This is to capture a broader applicant pool. When a job is posted for a longer period of time, there is often a large volume of applications to review. You can follow the recruitment process by checking your application status in your Candidate Home Account.
