Ajax Vaccine Eligibility Update

  • Effective, January 1, 2022, individuals must be 5 years old at time of vaccination to receive the pediatric Pfizer vaccine and 12 years old at time of vaccination to receive adult dose of Pfizer vaccine.
  • Beginning January 4, 2022, Ontarians will be required to use their enhanced vaccine certificate with official QR code. Vaccine receipts without a QR code will no longer be accepted as valid proof of vaccination.
  • Due to high demand for third doses, there is a limited supply of the adult/youth Pfizer vaccine in Canada. Vaccine mixing is safe and effective.
  • As of December 15, 2021, Ontario residents with approved medical exemptions are eligible to download a QR code to access settings requiring proof of vaccination.
  • Effective December 20, individuals 18 years and older are eligible to book an appointment for a third dose at least 84 days (3 months) after their second dose. Due to rapid expansion of eligibility, appointments may not be available immediately. See the COVID-19 immunization clinic calendar for individuals 12+ for clinic dates and times.
  • On December 15, the Ministry of Health announced individuals 50-years and older are eligible for a shorter interval between their second and third dose (a minimum of 84 days after their second dose). There is currently no availability in the system to move up third dose appointments that are already booked.
  • On December 15, the province of Ontario issued a preferential recommendation of the use of Pfizer vaccine for individuals ages 18 to 29 years old.
  • A limited amount of Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine is available for individuals 18 years and older who have not received any COVID-19 vaccine to date.
  • Select pharmacy locations in the Durham Region are administering vaccines to individuals 5 years of age and older. Most pharmacies book appointments ahead of time and some allow walk-ins. Check with the pharmacy before you go.
  • There are telephone services available to speak to someone about COVID-19 vaccine questions.
