We offer engaging, diverse and unique camp programs. Categories include: Science, Performing Arts, Nature and Outdoors, Sports, Art, Leadership, Out Trips and more. We have something for everyone!

Summer camps registration for the 2018 season is now closed. Thank you for a great summer! We look forward to seeing you in 2019. Stay tuned for the 2019 Summer Camps and Playgrounds insert beginning February 2019.

Before & After Hours

We offer extended camp hours from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. You must register for a camp before you can register for Before and/or After Hours.

Busing

We offer busing for our camps unless otherwise noted.

Busing cost

  • $25 for a 5 day week
  • $20 for a 4 day week

Please note:

  • Departure Time: 8:30-8:45 a.m.
  • Return Time: 4:30 p.m.
  • Busing is available for camps unless otherwise noted (look for the bus symbol in the Summer Camps insert and for the letters 'CB' during the registration process).
  • You must select the same pick-up and drop-off location
  • If registering for busing, DO NOT register for Before and After Hours. These services cannot be combined.
  • Please register for camp before registering for Busing. Ensure the barcode you select corresponds to the correct week of camp. You will be instructed to select your child's corresponding camp when registering.
  • Parent/Guardian is required to drop off and pick up at the times indicated above. Campers who miss the bus must find alternative transportation to camp.
  • Busing is available to and from camp locations unless otherwise noted in camp description.
  • Busing is not available for all camps or on the following weeks: July 2-5 and August 26-30

Frequently Asked Questions

What does your child need to bring to camp each day?

A peanut/nut free lunch, snacks, drinks (water bottle is a great idea), closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen, swim gear (if applicable to your child's camp). Please be sure to label everything.

Please Note: Campers do not swim on the first day of camp. Swimming information will be included in your child's first day letter.

What if my child needs to take medication while at camp?

The following procedures must be followed when sending medication to camp:

  • You must read, sign and fill out the medication consent form (form can be requested at the front desk of any community centre or will be made available by camp staff)
  • Send the medication to camp in the original prescribed container
  • Only send the correct dosage for the day
  • Any medication should be given directly to the camp supervisor to hold or be stored
What if my child needs to bring an Epipen to camp?

The following procedures must be followed when sending a child with an Epipen to camp:

  • You must read, sign and fill out the allergy alert poster and Epipen consent form (forms can be requested at the front desk of any community centre or will be made available by camp staff)
  • You must send 2 Epipens to camp - 1 stays on the camper at all times, the other is secured in the camp office and will be returned at the end of the session
  • If a camper forgets their Epipen and there is not a second Epipen stored in the camp office, the camper will be removed from the camp and a parent/guardian will be contacted to bring an Epipen or pick their child up
What is my child is sick on a day of camp?

Contact the Summer Camp Hotline and they will notify the camp supervisor of your child's absence.

What is the late pick-up fee?

A charge of $20 for every 15 minutes applies to the parent/guardian for all participants picked up late from a camp or bus. You will be required to pay the fee before you leave with your child.

Can my child bring items from home?

Do not send cell phones, toys, books, electronics, money, or sharp objects to camp. You will be notified in writing if your child is requested to bring specific items to camp.

What qualifications do the summer camp staff have?

All staff have current Standard First Aid, CPR-C, High Five® Principles of Healthy Child Development - a provincial certification, criminal record check, and attend a comprehensive week-long, pre-summer training session. The average counsellor/camper ratio varies between 1:10 and 1:13.

How do you group campers?

We group campers by age. Please notify us one week prior to your child's camp if you wish to have your child placed in a group with friends. We will try to accommodate your request.

What should I send to camp for lunch & snacks?

Each day your child will be required to bring a lunch, drink and two snacks. To avoid loss or confusion, place your child's name on his/her lunch.

Please send your child with a refillable water bottle.

Due to severe allergies, all snacks and lunches must be nut free.

 What happens on rainy days?

All camps operate on rainy days. If it is raining at the start of the camp day, Trailblazers, Lake to Land Exploration, Skateboard Camp and Summer Blowout Camp (Paulynn Park) campers will go by bus to the Ajax Community Centre. All other camps remain at their regularly assigned locations. We also provide shelter if bad weather happens during the camp day.

 What is the heat management plan?

Outdoor camps operate under the following conditions when temperatures are under 40 degrees Celsius with humidex:

  • Staff will take daily conditions into account and plan activities accordingly
  • Water breaks will be scheduled every 20 minutes
  • Sunscreen will be applied every 2 hours or after swimming or water play

When temperatures exceed 40 degrees Celsius with humidex the following provisions will be made:

  • Trailblazers, Lake to Land Exploration, Skateboard Camp and Summer Blowout Camp (Paulynn Park) relocate indoors
  • All other camp programs will run at their scheduled locations (indoor facilities are on site)
  • Outdoor play will be limited
  • Out trips may be rescheduled as required depending on the nature of the activity planned
What should the campers wear to camp?
  • Dress campers according to weather
  • Campers must wear closed-toe shoes - no flip flops, crocs or sandals. Running shoes are recommended
  • Hat and sunscreen
  • Bug repellent for outdoor camps
  • Clean indoor shoes during inclement weather
  • Label all articles worn or brought to camp with your child's name.
  • Send camper in older ‘play' clothing.
What if my child loses something at camp?

Check for lost items at the camp site (even if your camp session is over)

At the end of summer, until September 6, 2019, check the lost and found box at the Ajax Community Centre.

After September 6, 2019, unclaimed items are donated to a charitable organization

What happens on camp swim days?

Some camps participate in recreational swimming at the Ajax Memorial Pool (unless stated otherwise) under the guidance of qualified lifeguards. Campers go to the pool and back on our camp buses. Camps do not swim on the first day of camp. Swim information will be included in your child's first day letter.

Swim ability screening occurs on your child's first visit to the pool. Each child receives a coloured bracelet based on swim ability.

Camp staff supervise campers while in the water.

All campers must wear appropriate swimming attire.

All participants are encouraged to swim during swim times. Those not swimming will participate in alternate land activities.

Please Note: Children 6 years of age and younger will be required to wear a life jacket and remain in the shallow end regardless of swim ability. This is to meet the Town's admission standards.

How do I order pizza for my child?

Purchase pizza ($2.50 per slice) at the Ajax and McLean Community Centres or the Audley Recreation Centre Customer Service Desks or during online registration. Pizza can be added at any Customer Service Desk after registration. Deadline to add pizza is the Wednesday of each week. Pizza lunch takes place on Fridays.

Please Note: Only select camps participate in pizza lunch as indicated by the pizza symbol in the summer camps guide.

What if my child requires emergency transportation?

We provide emergency transportation to the hospital if required. A staff member stays with your child until parents/guardians arrive. Your child will never be left alone. Parents/emergency contacts are notified as soon as possible.

What is the Town of Ajax's photography policy?

The photography policy allows you to take photographs of your own family only. If you wish to take a photo of the counsellor or any other camper, you must obtain permission from the counsellor and the parents/guardians of the other camper before taking any photos. In order to respect the privacy of all participants, any photos or videos taken are for personal use only. Please do not post photos to public social media websites (e.g. YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).

Camper Pick-Up Information 

The safety of the campers is our number one priority. It is imperative that the person registering the camper provides us with the names of all people permitted to pick up your child. Your child will not be released to anyone not on the list. There is no exception to this rule. If a name needs to be added to the pick-up list please call the Summer Camp Hotline at 905-619-2529 ext. 2267 (CAMP) or email camps@ajax.ca starting July 2, 2019. Prior to July 2, 2019 please call 905-427-8811, 905-428-7711, or 905-427-2468.

Camper Age Guidelines

Campers must be 4 years of age by the start of the camp week to register for camps with ages listed as 4-5 years.

Campers must be 6 years of age by December 31, 2019 to register for camps with ages listed as 6-12 years.

No age exceptions will be made for the following camps: Mini Camp, Kindercamp, Sportball Half Day Camp, Learn to Fence, Skateboarding Camp, Mad Science and Kids Great Minds (for these camps, campers must meet the minimum age requirements at the start of the camp week).

 Inclusion Services

The Town of Ajax can provide extra staff or volunteers in recreation programs and/or camps to support children, youth, and adults with special needs in a low ratio. Inclusion staff support is free to Ajax residents. Learn more about Inclusion Services.

Playgrounds

A free 'come and go as you please' drop-in program for Ajax residents. Children between the ages of 6 to 12 enjoy games, sports, crafts, theme days and special events. Children can join the program at any time. Simply sign up on location with the site leaders.

Playgrounds Program

Tuesday, July 2 until Friday, Aug. 23, 2019

Mondays – Thursdays: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m.

Fridays: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Pint Size Program

All sites are open from 10 to 11 a.m. for 3 to 5 year olds.

Guardians must stay and play with their child while a staff leads games, crafts and other fun activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a registered program?

No, this is not a registered program. We do ask for contact and other information at your first visit.

What should my child bring to the Playgrounds Program?

Children must wear closed-toe shoes and should wear a hat, sunscreen and bring water. Snacks are not allowed as our programs are Peanut Aware Zones.

What do Children do for lunch?

There are no staff onsite during the lunch hour. Children are to leave the program site during lunch and may return at 1 p.m.

What if it rains or is really hot?

In the event of heavy or constant rain, locations close. The program will begin 30 minutes after the rain has stopped, if there is still time.

For extreme heat, sites will close at the discretion of the supervisors. The program will re-open when it is safe to do so.

Do I have to sign my child in/out?

A child who is 10 or older may leave the program alone, and at any time, with a signed note from the parent/guardian.

If your child is 9 or under, and going to the same home as an older sibling, they may walk home together. Otherwise, a caregiver 14 years or older must pick your child up.

Can I volunteer with Playgrounds?

Yes. Volunteer today and make a difference in our community! Volunteering is a great way to:

  • Gain work experience;
  • Earn volunteer hours for high school;
  • Meet new people;
  • Give back to your community

Does the Playgrounds Program go on trips?

Yes. Each Playground location will go on a 4 trips. Spots are first come, first serve as space is limited.

Are there washrooms on site?

Until August 15 2019, school washrooms are open from Monday to Thursday only. Some sites may have a portable washroom.
