 The Spoons – Friday, March 5, 2021 - 8 p.m.

The Spoons have helped to define the sound of pop and New Wave throughout the 80’s. Their album, Arias & Symphonies, has been named one of the 20 Most Influential Albums of The 80’s by Chart Magazine, and their song, Nova Heart, was recently listed in the Top 100 Canadian Singles of All Time. They have continued to perform and record over the years, with “New Day New World” being their 9th album release.

It’s a New Day and a whole New World as the Spoons perform songs from their new album and, of course, all the hit songs from almost forty years of making music, including Nova Heart, Arias & Symphonies, Romantic Traffic, Tell No Lies, Old Emotions and their Singularity remix of Nova Heart that has brought a whole new legion of fans along for the ride. New Day New World is sure to do the same and open another chapter in the Spoons’ remarkable story.

 Molly Johnson – Saturday, April 17, 2021 - 8 p.m.

Molly Johnson’s voice evokes the aura of dark, smoky nightclubs of a bygone era.  Like the woman behind it, it is a voice filled with humour, joy, surprise, sassiness, and of course, love.  Known as one of Canada’s greatest voices, this award-winning jazz vocalist is a mother, singer/songwriter, artist and philanthropist, who just released her highly anticipated new album, “Meaning to Tell Ya”.  It’s much more than jazz…it’s funk, it’s soul, it’s groove!

Tickets for this Live Stream event are only $20 and can be purchased from The Oakville CentreDon’t forget to type AJAX for the Pre-sale Code.

Virtual Cinema - Some Kind of Heaven – Friday, February 26

The St. Francis Centre, as part of its TIFF Ajax Film Circuit, and in partnership with mk2|MILE END, is pleased to present a virtual cinema screening of “Some Kind of Heaven” – the 2020 documentary about The Villages; the world’s largest retirement community.

At The Villages, often called “Disney World for Retirees”, we meet four residents living on the margins, striving to find happiness. From synchronized swimming to pickleball, the good life is waiting, as well as a discounted funeral package now at a new, lower price. While most residents have bought into the community’s packaged positivity, married couple Ann and Reggie wrestle with Reggie’s deteriorating grip on reality and psychedelic drug use; Barbara, a widow, seeks second love; and Dennis, an 82 year old bachelor living out of a van, searches for a wealthy woman to take care of him for his remaining years. Though the film “illustrates the gap between The Villages’ advertising copy and the practical reality of living there”, Some Kind of Heaven invests more in the “dreams and desires of its residents”.

So pop some popcorn, grab your favourite snack, and a beverage, and settle in for a night of thought-provoking film.  Tickets are $12 and can be purchased from mk2|MILE END.
