Youth Programs

As a Youth Friendly Community, the Town of Ajax is committed to building a healthy, vibrant community that Youth Friendly Logokeeps young people a priority. Youth Spaces

Drop in, meet new friends and take part in free activities! Our Youth Spaces are a safe and supervised drop-in space for youth between the ages of 11 to 18. Our Youth Spaces have pool, ping pong, foosball, air hockey tables, computers, large screen TV's, and video game consoles.

Visit our Youth Spaces at the Ajax Community Centre, McLean Community Centre and/or Audley Recreation Centre.

The Town of Ajax also offers a safe and welcoming space for high school students to hang out in, with structured and unstructred programming at the following youth hubs located in high schools.

Youth Engagement Advisory Committee (YEAC)

The Committee meets monthly and is made up of diverse youth of different ages, cultural and socio-economic demographics. The goals of the committee are to build skills and leadership, provide opportunities for growth and to give youth a voice on local youth issues. Do you have ideas on programming improvements? Class descriptions

Cardio Based Classes

Are great for those who are new to fitness classes:

  • CycleFit: A cardio and anaerobic workout on a stationary bike, simulating hills and valleys that can have you burning up to 500 calories with the timed athletic drills. New participant? Come try our Learn to Cycle on Wednesdays at 11 a.m.
  • Fitness Dance Fusion: Dance like nobody is watching in this dance inspired fitness class. Blending a variety of world music, dance your way to fitness with Latin, Asian, Indian, Hip Hop, Line Dancing and more. All levels welcome.
  • Socacize®: A creative blend of Caribbean and African dance movements set to calypso, soca, reggae, salsa, and dancehall music. This exhilarating workout targets the entire body, burning up to 1000 calories in each class. Get ready for a party!
  • Zumba®: A high energy dance based cardiovascular workout, allowing you to unleash your inner dancer. No previous dance experience required.  A mix of dance styles will be taught in each class. Check out our new learn to Zumba® classes to learn how to execute the moves properly.
  • Zumba® Party: Join the party on Saturday mornings. Each week this class will rotate between traditional Zumba® and Strong by Zumba®.  Pick up a copy of the Zumba® party schedule from the customer service desk today.

Strength Based Classes 

Are great for those who looking to build strength:

  • ABSolutely Core: Maximize your core in this 30 minute class that focuses on strengthening and building endurance in the muscles that support the spine.
  • Barre: Using the ballet barre and various equipment, this class will combine the disciplines of yoga, Pilates and ballet with strength based fitness exercises to help increase balance, strength and coordination. A variety of intensities will be offered.
  • Core’N’More: By utilizing various equipment, including dumbbells and resistance bands, this class is a fabulous workout designed to target core muscles. Focusing on upper, lower and oblique abdominals, and lower back muscles.
  • Super Sculpt: Take sculpting to the next level in this strength based class with an emphasis on strength and definition, designed to help participants develop muscular endurance and strength for an active lifestyle.

Combination Classes

Are great for those who are looking for a total body workout:

  • BOSU Intervals: Utilizing the BOSU Trainer, this class will enhance your stability and balance while providing the ultimate fat burning, muscle conditioning workout!
  • PiYo®: This class combines the muscle sculpting benefit of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga, sped up to deliver fat burning low impact workout for all fitness levels.
  • Step’N’Sculpt: Combining the benefits of cardiovascular and resistance training with challenging stepping patterns and varied intensity, this class is for intermediate and advanced steppers. Try our Lean to Step class to learn the basics.
  • Super Sculpt Intervals: Interval training at its best – this class will combine intervals of heart pounding cardio and muscle strengthening exercises. This total body workout is geared towards those who want to take their training to the next level.
  • Zumba® Toning: This is a strength-training dance fitness class that combines body sculpting exercises with all of the fun of Zumba® by adding the use of light dumbbells. 

High-Intensity Classes

This symbol identifies a class that is great for those who are looking for an advanced class.

  • BODYSHRED™: Jillian Michaels’ fitness program designed in an interval format. This class incorporates a series of circuits over a 30 minute period followed by a dynamic core conditioning workout. Modifications will be provided.
  • BootCamp: A high energy, conditioning program consisting of interval bases exercises, with shorter, more intense segments. This circuit style class allows you to work at your own pace, moving from one exercise to another, taking your body to its personal best.
  • H.I.I.T.: High Intensity Interval Training. This 45 minute class will torch the fat with its high intensity compound movements that target the major muscle groups. Short, intense segments done in intervals.
  • Strong by Zumba®: This class combines high intensity interval training with the Zumba® music you love. Let the music motivate you to push past your perceived limits to reach your fitness goals faster.

Introductory Classes

Are great for those who are new to fitness classes:

  • Forever Fit: A series of seated stretches and toning exercises designed for the participant looking for a moderate to low intensity workout. An effective condition class that combines muscle conditioning, cardiovascular and flexibility training. Ideal for beginners.
  • Older Adult Zumba®: This fun danced based cardiovascular workout requires no previous dance experience, allowing you to unleash your inner dancer, dancing away the calories. Basic dance and Latin steps will be introduced throughout the class.
  • Morning Energizer: Join us for an energetic warm up, invigorating cardio and a complete muscle conditioning class followed by a relaxing flexibility segment. This class may incorporate movements based on boxing or dance. Beginner to intermediate.
  • Seated Sculpt: Participants will improve muscle conditioning, flexibility and endurance while sitting in a chair or using a chair for support. The program will include the use dumbbells, exercise bands and balls to become stronger and healthier.
  • Yogalates: Combining the principals of core strength, breathing and muscular integration of Pilates, with the flexibility, tension release and the connection of the body and mind of Yoga. Yogalates challenges your strength, balance, coordination and flexibility all in one unique class.

Learn to Series Classes

These mini classes will prepare you to be able to participate in a full hour long class. Our instructors will teach you the basic movements so that you can feel comfortable attending a class on our schedule. We have Learn to Step, Learn to Cycle and Learn to Zumba®.
