Skating Programs - Registration now open!

 

Recreation Phase 1 Reopening Plan - Ice Rentals

Three ice pads (Pads 3 & 4 at the Ajax Community Centre and Village Arena) are now open for ice user groups (available to community youth ice groups only with PSO/NSO return to play protocols in place) and public skate. 

Online pre-registration is required for all skating programs. Registration opens every Wednesday at 9 a.m. for the upcoming Friday - Thursday.

Please Note: Effective immediately, a mask must be worn at all times while participating in a Town skating program (includes on-ice activities). In addition, and in accordance with the Province’s COVID-19 response framework & public health guidelines, registration for Town programming including fitness, swimming and skating programs is open to Durham Region residents only.

Safety protocols have been developed for ice usage and align with the Durham Region Public Health Department.

Reminders:

  • All skating programs will take place at the Ajax Community Centre (ACC), Pad 4 (excluding Public Skates scheduled on Sundays until December 27, 2020 which will take place on Pad 3).
  • Programs running on ACC Pad 4 - only enter and exit from the north parking lot. Programs running on Pad 3 - only enter and exit from the south parking lot. 
  • Please leave one empty space in between cars in the parking lot.
  • Only patrons who are in good health should register for a skating program
  • Patrons must bring their own filled water bottle.  Water fountains will not be available
  • Gender neutral washrooms for urgent need will be available.  Limited to one person at a time and will be disinfected regularly.
    • Users must sanitize their hands outside the washroom before entering and wash hands thoroughly after use of the washroom
  • There are no in/out privileges
  • Only one spectator per child is allowed, up to a maximum of 25 spectators
  • Be respectful of the arena staff and other patrons by practicing social and physical distancing, while in the facility and on the ice

Some regular skating programs will be disrupted due to holidays, special events or programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time should I arrive from my skating program?
Patrons will be granted entry to the rink a maximum of 10 minutes before the schedule skate program and must exit immediately after leaving the ice and removing skates
Where will I put on my skates?
Chairs will be provided in the arena lobby to tie skates
Are change rooms available?
No.
Children under 3 yrs of age are free.  Do I still have to register them online?
Yes. In order to control participation numbers all patrons who wish to skate must be registered online.

Public Skating

A leisure skate for everyone.

Adult Skate

A leisure skate for adults aged 18 yrs and older. Unsupervised.

Parent & Tot Skate

Leisure skate for parents with children aged 5yrs and younger. Parents must accompany their children on the ice wearing skates.

Adult Shinny Hockey

Due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, this program is currently not being offered.

A pay-as-you play program for adults 18yrs+. Two Goalies play for free. Referees not provided. Unsupervised.

Adult Stick & Puck

Practice the fundamentals of hockey, shooting, passing and stick handling. Unsupervised. Scrimmages and goalies not permitted.

Ladies Shinny Hockey

Due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, this program is currently not being offered.
A pay-as you-play program for women 18yrs+. Two goalies play for free. Referees not provided. Unsupervised.

Adult Sledge Shinny Hockey

Due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, this program is currently not being offered.
Sledge Hockey is an exciting sport for people with physical disabilities. The sledges can be specially adapted to meet the needs of each player. Sledges Available.

Ticket Ice

This is a pay-as-you-go program designed for figure skating practice only. You must be a Skate Canada member and accompanied by a Skate Canada Coach.

Fee for skaters is $10.97 (including tax). Admission is free for coaches accompanying their skaters but the coaches name and telephone number are required to complete the online registration process. Those wishing to purchase a 10-pass can call the Ajax Community Centre.

 Skate Memberships

The Town of Ajax offers quality skate memberships at an affordable price, including:

  • Use of Town of Ajax arenas during designated times - Ajax Community Centre and Village Arena
  • Includes unlimited Swimming during designated times at all 4 pools - Ajax Community Centre, McLean Community Centre, Audley Recreation Centre and Ajax Memorial Pool (outdoor - open from late June to early September)

Arena Rentals

Arena rentals are currently available to community youth ice groups only with PSO/NSO return to play protocols in place. This is part of a phased re-opening of ice that will focus on the safety and protection of our residents, sports teams and community groups while complying with the health and safety protocols advised by Durham Region Public Health. Safety and Accessibility

For your safety, please do not skate on ponds and other open bodies of water in parks.

 

Public Skate, Adult Skate and Parent & Tot: Helmets not required but highly recommended. CSA approved skating aids are permitted.

 

Adult Shinny, Ladies Shinny and Adult Sledge Hockey: Full hockey equipment is required.

 

Adult Stick & Puck: CSA approved hockey helmet is required.
