Things to Do

Planning your visit to Ajax? There is so much to see and do while you're here.

Walk or cycle the Waterfront Trail
The spectacular Ajax Waterfront is truly a sight to be seen. The 7km Ajax Waterfront Trail is part of a trail that runs from Hamilton to Belleville, and is also part of the Trans-Canada Trail. It remains one of the most picturesque waterfronts in southern Ontario.
Take a walk back in time
The Town of Ajax has a unique history that dates back to 1941 during World War II. Today, this unique history lives on in many forms. All around Ajax, you’ll find reminders of the Town’s early beginnings – historic sites and landmarks, each with unique stories of times long ago. Visit Veterans Point Garden, a memorial located at the base of Harwood Avenue or walk the streets of historic Pickering Village, an original Quaker Settlement from the 1800’s now home to shopping and restaurants.
Take in a performance at the St. Francis Centre for Community Arts & Culture
The St. Francis Centre for Community Arts & Culture is Ajax’s destination for entertainment. The historic building, originally a church constructed in 1871, has been restored to a modern and vibrant facility that boasts year-round entertainment with shows, plays and performances.
Feel the excitement at Ajax Downs
Ajax Downs has a deep rooted history of horse racing in Canada, and has been exclusively devoted to the exciting sport of Quarter Horse racing for 40 years. For fast paced entertainment seekers, the track is conveniently connected to OLG Slots at Ajax Downs which is home to more than 500 slot machines.
Go for a canoe ride at Rotary Park
Located at the mouth of Duffins Creek, Rotary Park is a major focal point of the Waterfront Trail, with opportunities to play on the beach at the water’s edge and fish along the banks of Lake Ontario. For those who wish to explore the Creek by canoe or kayak, a small boat launch is available.
Go fishing at Greenwood Conservation Area
Greenwood Conservation Area comprises approximately 700 acres of protected greenspace within the Duffins Creek Watershed. Home to hiking trails and some of the best fishing in Durham Region, the park allows residents and visitors a chance to explore the forest or the steep-sided river valley. Duffins Creek, a cold, clear-running creek, is a perfect home for rainbow trout and other species of fish.
