We, the Ajax Anti-Racism Task Force (AARTF), unequivocally condemn the vicious act of Islamophobia that targeted a Muslim woman in Ajax. This hateful assault not only harms an individual but also undermines our Town’s core values of dignity, respect, and inclusion. No one should live in fear because of their racial identity. Muslims are an integral part of the Canadian fabric, including those who choose to wear the hijab. Tragically, we have seen an alarming 1,800% increase in Islamophobic incidents across Canada*, highlighting a growing concern that we cannot ignore.
The AARTF supports all Muslims and we will not allow any such incidences of racism within our community to go unnoticed or unpunished. This deplorable act of violence against a member of our community must be punished to the fullest extent of the law and must also be a wakeup call for all Ajax residents. We need to call out acts of racism in our community and ensure that this behaviour is not normalized. The AARTF is committed to working collaboratively with the Muslim community to confront and eradicate Islamophobia and all forms of racism while promoting understanding and respect.
