Once again, this September, the Town of Ajax, Region of Durham, and surrounding municipalities are coming together to help raise awareness, food donations, and funds to battle hunger in the community during National Hunger Action Month.

Hunger is an important issue that impacts individuals, seniors, and families from all parts of Durham Region. As Ajax and the Region of Durham continue to grow at a rapid pace and food prices increase, more people are experiencing using food banks and related services more than ever. To address the needs of the community, the Town and neighbouring municipalities are taking action together.

From September 2 to September 30, residents, businesses, community groups and organizations are encouraged to join and help battle hunger by dropping off non-perishable food items at four convenient locations in the Town of Ajax:

  • Ajax Town Hall (65 Harwood Avenue South)
  • *McLean Community Centre (95 Magill Drive)
  • *Ajax Community Centre (75 Centennial Road)
  • *Audley Recreation Centre (1955 Audley Road North)
  • *Ajax Public Library – Main Branch (55 Harwood Avenue South) until September 29, 2025 

*Weekend drop off available

All donations will be leveraged by local Ajax food banks to support families in need.

  • Between now and 2046, Durham Region's population is projected to grow by almost 40%. That's faster than the Ontario average.
  • Suggested items include: unopened, non-perishable food items such as rice, oats, cereal, pancake mix and syrup, pasta and pasta sauce, canned beans and vegetables,  canned fish and meats, soup, instant noodles, crackers, granola bars, peanut-free school snacks, peanut butter, flour and sugar, hot chocolate, instant coffee, kraft dinner, meal kits and personal hygiene items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, feminine hygiene products).
