Once again, this September, the Town of Ajax, Region of Durham, and surrounding municipalities are coming together to help raise awareness, food donations, and funds to battle hunger in the community during National Hunger Action Month.
Hunger is an important issue that impacts individuals, seniors, and families from all parts of Durham Region. As Ajax and the Region of Durham continue to grow at a rapid pace and food prices increase, more people are experiencing using food banks and related services more than ever. To address the needs of the community, the Town and neighbouring municipalities are taking action together.
From September 5 to September 27, residents, businesses, community groups and organizations are encouraged to join and help battle hunger by dropping off non-perishable food items at four convenient locations in the Town of Ajax:
- Ajax Town Hall (65 Harwood Avenue South)
- *McLean Community Centre (95 Magill Drive)
- *Ajax Community Centre (75 Centennial Road)
- *Audley Recreation Centre (1955 Audley Road North)
*Weekend drop off available
All donations will be leveraged by local Ajax food banks to support families in need.

- Almost 359 people are currently on the Region of Durham’s homelessness “by-name list” (last updated October 10, 2023). This list keeps track of people experiencing chronic homelessness and includes individuals, seniors and families.
- Suggested items include: unopened, non-perishable food items such as rice, oats, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce, pancake mix & syrup, canned beans, canned vegetables, soup, crackers, granola bars, peanut-free school snacks, peanut butter, flour and sugar, tuna and salmon, children's individually wrapped school snacks, pancake mix, hot chocolate, instant coffee, instant noodles, kraft dinner and meal kits.
