Support The Period Purse Spring Donation Blitz April 10 - 26!

Ajax Council is encouraging participation in Ajax's Period Purse Spring Donation Blitz from April 10 - 26, 2019. This bi-annual event takes place in the spring and fall in support of the Durham Region Chapter.

What is the Period Purse?

The Period Purse (TPP) is a non-profit organization with chapters throughout Ontario and Saskatchewan. TPP’s mission is to achieve menstrual equity by providing marginalized menstruators with access to free menstrual products and to reduce the stigma surrounding periods through public education and advocacy.

Show your support by donating any of the following items:

  • Boxes of tampons, pads, and liners
  • Large Ziploc bags

Items not accepted:

  • Mouthwash, perfume
  • Pain medication
  • Razors, nail clippers and metal nail filers
  • Used hygiene items

Benefitting charities include:

  • Herizon House
  • The Denise House
  • Gate 3:16
  • Muslim Welfare Centre
  • Y's WISH
  • Bethesda House
  • AIDS Committee of Durham Region
  • Joanne’s House

Quick Facts 

-       Donations will be accepted at Ajax Town Hall, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

-       Ajax resident Jen Thompson instigated this Ajax Council initiative

-       Period poverty is the lack of access to sanitary products, menstrual hygiene education, toilets, hand washing facilities, and/or waste management

-       One third of Canadian women under the age of 25 have struggled to afford menstrual products

-       1 in 7 Canadian girls have missed school, or have left school early because they did not have access to menstrual products
