Throughout the month of June, the Town of Ajax celebrates Pride Month, recognizing the great value of and joy in love, diversity of identity, and authentic self-expression in all forms. We also acknowledge the bravery and legacy of those who blazed a path toward equality. Ajax is proud to be home to many members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Two-Spirit Plus (LGBTQ2S+).

In support of Pride Month, the Town has raised the Pflag (progressive pride flag) at Pat Bayly Square and Ajax Council released a special video message reaffirming the importance of this updated flag design and movement towards inclusivity for all identifying in the LGBTQ2S+ community. In addition, the Town will be utilizing a specialty PflagTown of Ajax logo on all corporate social media channels for the month of June.

The Town has developed a special calendar of virtual events to promote and raise awareness for Pride Month. A full list of events is available at ajax.ca/Pride.

Quote

“Ajax Council is proud to raise the Pflag, and stand beside members of the Ajax community who identify as LGBTQ2S+. We celebrate the many gains made toward equitable treatment and participation for members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, and acknowledge how far we have yet to go. We strongly believe that there is no place for discrimination or hate of any kind in Ajax. The Town has compiled a helpful list of community events throughout Pride Month at ajax.ca/pride. I invite all Ajacians to take steps to build their knowledge about the challenges that face the LGBTQ2S+ community and action toward allyship.” – Mayor Shaun Collier

“Pride Month is a time to recommit to personal and professional allyship with the LGBTQ2S+ community through showing respect for all forms of sexual and gender identity and expression (including use of preferred pronouns), seeking and sharing correct and up-to-date information, and standing in solidarity with the LGBTQ2S+ community by advocating for the elimination of barriers toward equality.” – Natasha Sharma, Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator, Town of Ajax
