This February, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is hosting two virtual open houses (February 1 and 4) to inform residents and answer their questions about the ongoing Carruthers Creek Watershed Plan.

Ajax Council is signed up to participate in the February 4 open house and is encouraging residents to join the discussion as well.

In preparation of the open houses, the Town has produced a special information brochure for residents to prepare in advance of the meetings. The brochure, which is available on the Town’s IMO page and will be delivered to approximately 550 households, includes background and material for use at the open house.

Commissioned by the Region of Durham in 2015, the Carruthers Creek Watershed Plan will help us better understand this unique watershed (current conditions) and explore how to best protect, enhance and restore the watershed. The Plan will guide key decisions about development in the watershed for decades to come.

The Town of Ajax remains concerned about potential development in the Carruthers Creek headwaters. Staff and Council continue to follow the progress and recommendations of this report to assess potential impacts on our residents and resources.

Quote

“The Carruthers Creek is a small and sensitive watershed, which as residents of the Lakeside community know, is prone to flooding during severe weather events. We want to make sure that residents along the Carruthers Creek Watershed are aware of this virtual event and to encourage them to ask any questions they have. The final Plan and report will impact development and mitigation measures required for decades to come.”

– Mayor Shaun Collier, Town of Ajax
