Discuss community safety in Ajax with DRPS and Durham Region Social Services

As a part of the Town of Ajax’s commitment to addressing homelessness and community safety, the Town is hosting a Community Meeting on Homelessness to discuss safety in Ajax.

Join Town staff, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) and Durham Region Social Services on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 7 – 8 p.m. at the Ajax Community Centre - HMS Room (75 Centennial Rd.).

What to expect:

  • Brief presentations from Town of Ajax staff, DRPS and Durham Region Social Services on the complexities of managing homelessness and its impacts in the community.
  • Remarks from guest speaker, Adam Smith, Peer Support Lead at CFOC-Doors of Compassion
  • Open forum for questions from residents and business owners.
  • Light refreshments will be served.

  • The Town of Ajax is committed to continuing to work with the local service manager, Durham Region and local community partners towards finding long-term solutions to the homelessness issue here in Ajax.
  • Town of Ajax staff, including Operations & Environmental Services and By-law Services, DRPS and Durham Region Social Services will be in attendance.
  • For those who can’t attend in person, this meeting will be livestreamed on the Town’s YouTube channel. A recording of the meeting will also be available following the event on ajax.ca/homelessnessmeeting.
  • The Town works closely with the integral community entities that aid vulnerable populations in our Town and Region. Funding for these organizations is largely by provincial and regional governments, grant programs, donations and more. The Town is an ally in ensuring these supports and resources are accessible by our community members.
  • Adam Smith is the Peer Support Lead at CFOC-Doors of Compassion, a registered nonprofit and charitable organization dedicated to serving the unhoused population in the Durham Region. With three emergency shelters and one service hub, CFOC provides critical support to individuals facing homelessness, addiction and mental health challenges. In his role, Adam comes alongside those in need, offering support, resources and encouragement from a place of lived experience.
